Music Mouth: Review of Twenty One Pilots
Music Mouth:
Review of Twenty One Pilots
Straight from America, this two-piece band are quickly
picking up a fan-base in Britain. Two people are all this band need to be
brilliant; one man on drums whilst the other provides the vocals and keyboard.
There’s something fresh and incredibly loveable about them when they combine
alternative with pop melodies. We discover that their sound isn’t typical of a
lot of American bands when the vocalist throws out verses of ridiculously slick
rapping, with this being exactly what makes them. They are another example of a
genres overlapping, providing evidence for the evolving music industry, because
let’s be honest why just fall into one genre, when you can fall into a bunch of
them instead? This is such a genius way of attracting an audience with such
diversity.
With their debut album Vessel already available in America,
the UK eagerly awaits the release in September. Their single ‘Holding Onto You’ is the first off the album. It enters with a reverberating synth
introduction which then jumps straight into Tyler Joseph’s fast-paced vocals
but just a little bit later in, its slowed down to present his singing ability
showing listeners that rapping isn’t all that this guy is capable of. His range
is pretty unbelievable, hitting notes higher than even most females can, resembling something similar to Fun's lead man who is coincidently part of the same record label, Fueled by Ramen.
However, let’s not forget the drummer Josh Dunn in all this, as it’s his work
that holds this song together, building it up to the peaks which hold potential of reeling in anyone who's open-minded towards new music.
It’s pretty difficult to remember that this sound is only
down to a twosome and due to this fact there are a lot of electronic additions but
the raw talent that lies beneath that is unmistakable. This duo is one to keep
an eye out for. A new single, ‘House Of Gold’ is being released in October and
tickets for their UK tour in February go on sale tomorrow!
